Sticky Honey-Orange Chicken Wings

I was watching the Pinoy Edition of Junior Master Chef and I am amazed how these kids are able to cook such  food in a time pressured environment...Honestly I was never a fan of the kitchen (though i looove to eat!). I was just force to love the kitchen when I had my family and need to feed them. While, my mom is a great cook.. she can cook a delicious with out a recipe on hand. Whatever she sees in the refrigerator, she can turn it into something magnificent.. that's my mom. I however will never be like that. I am someone who cook by the book (cook book/ magazine that is) or by the internet (recipes from the website) and by the measurement.

And so I am inspired by these kids and took out the Yummy magazine and decided to cook the Sticky Honey-Orange Chicken Wings which was in their March issue cover.

For the coating:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon five-spice powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
cooking oil, for deep-frying
12 pieces chicken wings

For the honey-orange glaze:
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon ginger, sliced very thinly
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
1/2 cup honey

Prep Time: 15 minutes. Cooking Time: 15-20 minutes

In a small bowl, mix together flour, 5 spice powder, salt and pepper
Heat oil in a medium saucepan
Coat wings well with the flour mixture
Fry wings for 10 to 15 minutes or until parts turn golden brown. Remove from heat and immediately drain on paper towels.
Make the honey-orange glaze: in ma medium saucepan, heat oil on medium heat and saute ginger for 1 minute. Add grated orange zest then add honey.Simmer for 2 - 3 minutes while stirring continuously.

Place chicken in batches in the pan and toss to coat the wings with glaze. Serve as desired.
The finish product

Bon Appétit.
